Burntisland Fabrications Ltd wins Wellhead Deck Contract for the Buzzard Project in the North Sea.Burntisland, Fife - 27th November 2003.Burntisland Fabrications Ltd (BiFab) has been awarded a contract by EnCana (U.K.) Limited to supply the Wellhead Deck for its Buzzard Field located some 100 kms north east of Aberdeen. The contract is for the management, fabrication and the provision of assistance with the commissioning of a 3650T Wellhead Deck with a completion date of 31st March 2005. The Wellhead Deck will be assembled at the existing yard at Methil with construction support from the facility at Burnt island. John Robertson, Managing Director stated, “ We are delighted that BiFab has been selected for this project against strong competition from Europe and the UK. We have just completed the last delivery of modules for the BP Clair Project including a 900 T Compression Module. The Buzzard work will start immediately, securing employment for our current workforce and creating 150 additional jobs during the first quarter 2004. Our management and workforce have been working extremely hard since the management buyout in March 2001. BiFab has earned a reputation as an innovative company offering flexibility, quality and the capacity to meet tight delivery timescales. The award of this contract demonstrates a high level of confidence by EnCana in what BiFab can offer”. The expansion into the Methil facility will give BiFab the capacity to undertake a wider range of projects in the oil and gas sector. BiFab has also been working closely with Scottish Enterprise Fife and Fife Council looking at diversification opportunities in alternative energy in an attempt to secure a long term future for the Methil facility in addition to the operation at Burntisland. Deputy Enterprise Minister Lewis Macdonald offered his congratulations, saying: “ This is great news for Fife and Scotland – securing employment for the current workforce and creating 150 jobs is a tremendous early Christmas present for the area. “ Burntisland Fabrications Ltd deserves great credit for their work in securing this order.
