Cygnus Bravo Jacket sailaway from Methil yard

Two years of significant construction work on the Cygnus gas project saw the last of the four jackets (Bravo) sailed out from the yard in Methil, Fife and began its 380 km journey to site.

This is the last of four jackets for Cygnus, the largest gas discovery in the Southern North Sea in the last 25 years. First gas is targeted for late 2015 and by 2016 the field will be the second largest individual gas producer in the UK.

The jacket weighs 1,883 tonnes and sailed with the 1,296 tonnes of piles, which fastens the jacket to the seabed. It has taken approximately one year to build from the first steel cutting in May 2014.

After project sanction in August 2012, GDF SUEZ E&P UK placed a contract with BiFab for the design and fabrication of the four (4) jackets, which weigh approximately 8,000 tonnes in total.

BiFab were also awarded the contract for the construction of the Quarters & Utilities (QU) platform, which remains under construction at the Methil site and remains on scheduled to sail during July 2015
